Transforming Oral Histories: Harnessing the Power of Chicago’s Japanese American Voices

Host Organization: Japanese American Service Committee In this session, learn how a joint Japanese American Service Committee/Chicago Japanese American Historical Society project used oral histories to form the backbone of "Uprooted" and "Reckoning," two interactive web experiences that teach Japanese American history at a secondary school level and through a distinctly midwestern lens. Project lead and former WBEZ producer Katherine Nagasawa will demonstrate the two web experiences and discuss the process of moving from raw oral history interviews to engaging, multimedia educational tools.
