Indo-American Museum Opening Reception and Artist Talk
October 16, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm CDT
FREEHost Organization: National Indo American Museum
Program #1: Unraveling the Skeins to View the Obscured
A visual artist’s journey from concept to realization
Join Sarika Goulatia for a fascinating conversation about the creative process that transforms her Indian-American experience into art where the viewer often becomes part of the work. Sometimes forgotten, sometimes remembered: the tribulations and afflictions never erased…, her installation at NIAM’s E/Merge: Art of the Indian Diaspora exhibition at the Umang and Paragi Patel Center in Lombard invites viewers to meditate and pay homage to all that they have lost. The program is free and part of a series to be held during the six-month run of the exhibition. Registration is required, capacity is limited and COVID restrictions apply. Register early to secure your spot!
Program #2: Storytelling
Jitesh Jaggi, a two-time The Moth Story Slam winner, will be performing stories that deal with his immigration, art, and diaspora experiences. These are true, personal stories that are family-friendly and can be enjoyed by people from all backgrounds. Our stories are how we relate to one another and storytelling is the perfect oral medium to connect the audience with the Indian diaspora.
