Host Organization:Filipino American Historical Society Of Chicago
A Workshop on the Immigration Stories of Filipino Americans with guest speaker Maria Alvarez Stroud, author of the book, Brave Crossing. The book is the story of a young man’s dream of adventure and a different if not a better life in another country. This historical novel is based on the life of Ms. Stroud’s father, who came to the US alone in 1916 when he was 20 years old. He struggled with racism, language problems, a cross-cultural romantic interest, and separation from his family and culture in the Philippines, but achieved his dreams of becoming a medical doctor.
